Chevy Chase, MD, May 9, 2022 – FCP® announces its commitment to a 2022 partnership with Project Destined, a social impact education and investment platform that specializes in training minority youth. Since its founding in 2016, Project Destined has worked with more than 2,500 participants in 25 cities across the U.S. including Los Angeles, Atlanta, Dallas, and Miami. FCP’s partnership will support Project Destined and its mission to provide training in financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and real estate to students from underserved communities.
Project Destined leverages a work-based learning approach where students join executives to evaluate actual commercial real estate deals in their community and compete in a pitch competition to industry leaders to earn scholarships. FCP mentors will prepare, engage, and guide students one-on-one to help them develop a range of fundamentals—including financial, technical, presentation, and leadership skills—designed to aid them in obtaining internships, certifications, and full-time employment, launching their careers in commercial real estate.
“Our partnership with Project Destined allows us to invest in a future generation of real estate leaders from our community, supporting them from mentorship through talent acquisition, which is a crucial process towards advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the industry. We are excited to be part of this experience and encourage other firms to participate,” said FCP Principal, Summer Haltli.
“At a point in my career search where I wanted to pivot from investment banking and into real estate, Project Destined gave me an amazing foundation for concepts and applications within commercial real estate that I wasn’t able to get from classes. Having great mentors and a cohort working together and helping each other learn was a warm welcome into the industry. I am excited to continue my journey with FCP,” said Youngin Kang, 2021 Team FCP for Project Destined and an incoming Summer 2022 FCP intern.
“Project Destined is a one-of-a-kind internship that is actively changing the real estate industry by putting people who come from underserved communities at the forefront and advocating for diversity in the workplace. In just 8 weeks not only did I learn so much about real estate but I got to work with high profiled industry leaders, all while building my professional network. In addition, Project Destined exposed me to many different companies in private equity, development, and brokerage in a short amount of time. Within a few months, I received a full-time offer from FCP to be a Real Estate Financial Analyst Intern this summer. My time at Project Destined has helped me to prepare for this outstanding internship at FCP by providing me with tangible skills in leadership, real estate, and instilling in me high levels of confidence to thrive in this industry,” said Hewan Abera, Incoming Summer 2022 FCP intern and 2022 Team FCP Program Manager for Project Destined.
